For the last seven years he has been the Principal Law Clerk for a New York State Supreme Court Judge in Kings County, New York. Prior to that, Mr. Burzio worked for over eight years in the neighborhoods of Williamsburg and Bushwick, Brooklyn, initially as legislative staff to a member of the New York State Assembly, then for over six years as an attorney for the Bushwick Housing and Legal Assistance (BHLA) program of the Ridgewood Bushwick Senior Citizens Council (now RiseBoro). As an attorney, he represented hundreds of tenants in these communities. He defended them against eviction and was able to secure improved housing conditions and services. During this time Mr. Burzio also served for several years as the Director of the BHLA program, wherein he supervised attorneys and support staff while maintaining a full case load.<\/p><p>Mr. Burzio has also been an active member of Brooklyn\u2019s legal and civic community. Beginning in 2005, he served for several years as a member of the Kings County Democratic Party\u2019s Judicial Screening Committee. In 2008 he was selected to participate as a \u201cWe Are All Brooklyn\u201d Fellow by the Jewish Community Relations Council of New York. He also served for five years as a member of his local community board and has written articles on law and government for City Limits Magazine and the Columbia Journalism Review.<\/p><p>Mr. Burzio was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico and attended Parroquia Santa Teresita in San Juan. He moved to Baldwin, New York at the age of seven and attended public schools there. Mr. Burzio received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and Philosophy from the State University of New York at Binghamton. He graduated\u00a0<em>magna cum laude\u00a0<\/em>and was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa, Psi Chapter. He received his Juris Doctor from the University of North Carolina Law School at Chapel Hill.
